    What to Expect When Nesting*

Many mothers-to-be will experience the need to nest - essentially, a drive to prepare your home for your new baby, whenever he or she may arrive. If you don’t, no worries, that just means that you’re getting all the rest and relaxation you can before that tiny bundle of joy changes everything…

If the nesting frenzy does hit, here’s a run-down of what you can expect.

    The Need to Clean

Once maternity leave begins and you have a little bit of time before your due date, the urge to get things in order - especially cleaning - may be too much to resist, resulting in a spring clean of epic proportions. Many new mothers will see this period of time as a chance to get around to all those cleaning jobs that never get done such as washing duvets, rugs, sorting out the cupboard and getting baby’s room just right.

The things to keep in mind is that you are heavily pregnant so you will need to tackle cleaning jobs carefully and with plenty of rest breaks. That means no scrubbing the floors on your hands and knees or climbing ladders to reach those pesky cobwebs. You must look after yourself!
House to Home has some great tips for cleaning every room of your home to make the task at hand much easier.

    Finances in Check

Getting your bills in check is just another thing to check off the to-do list. Knowing what bills are coming out, when they are coming out and how your maternity pay will affect this is essential to reducing stress and feeling on top of everything. The Money Advice Service has a great finance health check tool to see how you’re currently coping with finances and can give you tips on how to work your money better. Burying your head in the sand is not an option.

Set reminders for your MOT, insurance policies and any non-regular payments that will be coming up while you are on maternity leave. Also, if you don’t already have a designated place where all your paperwork lives, get one. It’s so much easier having everything in one, easily accessible place.

    Stocking Up

Now to the interesting bit - food. Cooking meals for yourself might never have been a difficult thing in the past, but once you have a little one that depends on you to cater to his/her every need, things get a bit more complicated. Preparing for this time by batch cooking and freezing wisely will pay huge dividends later on.

The key to batch cooking your favourite meals is in the labelling. Ensure everything is frozen by portion and has the name of what it is and when it was made so you can keep a track of what you have. Jamie Oliver has some “fabulous freezer tips” to make the most of the space you have including freezing vegetables, spices (for that extra kick in meals) and even dairy products!

Nesting could also involve defrosting the freezer - to ensure you have as much space as possible in there - and also making sure the cupboards and fridge are full of the essential items you need. Preparation is key to reducing pre-baby stress and helping you to control the things you can.

    Space Saver

Whether you have a small flat or a large house, making sure the space works for your needs is essential. Everything in your home should have a place and a purpose, so using this time before baby’s arrival is great for getting rid of items you don’t want or need. You will be streamlining your home while also helping out local charity shops - it’s a win-win situation…

Once you have painstakingly gone through all the stuff you have to decide what makes the cut, the next task is to find a new home for it. Clever storage solutions are the answer by using up all of the unused space you have in the form of under bed storage, shelving, loft space and the garage. Having all of your possessions in order will be another satisfying tick off the to-do list as well as giving you a home that is tidy and enjoyable to be in.

There are also other options to increasing the space you have, or giving the impression that there’s more space. Internal bifold doors offer up a solution to the changing needs of your communal areas. You can open up two rooms into one when needed for entertaining guests (baby’s first birthday, maybe?) and separate them again for those situations when you need the rooms to have different functions.

Dressing for Summer with Simply Be*

At the moment we are having a typical British summer. I'm either moaning that it's too cold or moaning that it's too hot. It's always hard to know what to wear, so dresses are my normally my favourite item of clothing to wear. I haven't invested much into my summer wardrobe so I knew it was time to add a few new pieces.

It's no secret that I love Simply Be. They are always one of the first places I look for day dresses. As they have a great selection to choose from and I love that I can try on the clothes in the comfort of my home.

I ordered a few dresses, being 5'9 and plus size.I never know what will look right on me. These two dresses are the ones that made the cut.

As you can see from the following pictures, I have my arms and legs out and even showing a bit of VBO (Visible Belly Outline). It's too hot to be covering up, I have no desire to be overdressed and uncomfortable. I rather spend my time making memories with Darcy, than worry about what others think of my body!

I wouldn't normally pick a dress like this as I'm not a fan of clothes with collars as they make me look even more busty than I am. However I was pleasantly surprised with this ditsy print dress, it is really flattering. I'll be able to transaction into autumn with a pair of tights.

I fell in love with this Dobby dress when I saw it. It is lined but still light and airy. I love that it has a elasticated waist as makes it really comfortable and I love the tassles neck tie. Every time I have worn it I have had someone comment on how nice it is.

I haven't booked a holiday at the moment, I'm hoping to go on a cheeky one in the autumn. However when I do I will definitely be adding these two stunning dresses to my suitcase.

Simply Be have a huge range of summer dresses up to a size 32, definitely worth having a browse.

What is your go to outfit to wear in the summer?

My love affair with Crep Protect started when Darcy’s Dad brought her a pair of pink Timberlands. I went from thinking, "aww they are so cute!" to "she will never be wearing them out as she will ruin them after one outing". So they sat looking pretty in a box for a while, that is until a friend of mine posted a video on Facebook of Crep Protect in action.

After watching numerous videos on YouTube and reading countless reviews. I decided what the hell, I’m going to buy a can. The application was so easy, you simply just spray 20cms away onto your clean footwear. In a well ventilated area or outside, leave it to dry for around ten minutes. Spray another coat and hey presto!!, you are protected for up to two weeks without reapplying.

Crep Protect will leave your shoes water resistant, and protected from dirt and most types of residue.

Darcy wore her Tim’s out and of course she did get them dirty straight away. However, when I got home I wiped them with a baby wipe and everything came off so easily. They look as good as new to this day.

One thing I would say about Crep Protect is they are missing out on a larger audience by only marketing it for trainers. This works on all types of footwear. I have sprayed it on all our trainers, shoes and boots, anything I know that might be scuffed or get really dirty. I’ve even been known to spray it on one of my favourite white canvas bags.

A can costs £10 which I got from Amazon, however Crep Protect is available in most footwear stores.

You can find out more about Crep Protect by visiting their Twitter, Instagram or Facebook Page.

I am now a true fan of Crep Protect. Once you try it, you will be one too.

Five Tips To Prepare Your Child For Their First Dentist Visit*

It is suggested by dental professionals that a child's first dentist visit should be by their first birthday. This is so the child gets comfortable with the sights and sounds of the dentist and of course to get their teeth examined. It is important to set a good pattern very a young age for a lifetime of good dental health.

Darcy first visit at the dentist went really well, it was all over within ten minutes. I think I was more nervous than she was. She left with a big smile and a bigger sticker. I think that it is really important that a child has a good first appointment, the first dental visit for a child needs to be something that will have them coming back without protesting..

Today I thought I would share my five tips for making your child's first dentist visit stress free for all.

Choose the right dentist, ask friends for recommendations or search children friendly dentists. Arrange a visit before their real appointment. Your child will feel more comfortable with going back there if they get familiar with the office and staff first.

Don’t make it a big deal, act natural and relaxed about it. Tell your child they are going to see a new friend that will help them keep their teeth healthy.  Mention to them the dentist office is just for children so it feels like it's a special place just for them.

Let them bring their favourite toy or book, so that they have something familiar with them.

Arrive early, there is nothing worse than rushing to an appointment it can cause unnecessary stress. When you are less stress so is your child. Also arriving early will allow them time to relax in their new environment.

Don’t allow your child to eat too much before their appointment, sometimes if we are a little nervous our stomachs can get upset. Which we don’t want as we want them to feel as comfortable as possible.

So those were my five tips to prepare your child for their first visit to the dentist. This post is in conjunction with The Centre of Advanced Dentistry Yorkshire, who provide high standards of  dental care for all the family. They also offer affordable cosmetic dentistry, implants and more.

How did you prepare your child for the first visit to the dentist?

Lush Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask: YAY or NAY?

Right i’m on a mission, a mission to sort out my skin. At the ripe old age of 33 I still suffer from oily spot prone skin.

Cosmetic Warrior is for oily and spot prone skin and contains garlic, green grapes, honey and tea tree oil to name a few of it's natural ingredients.

The consistency of the mask is rather thick and textured, it’s worth giving a stir with your finger before using it. It feels fresh and cooling on the skin, this is assisted by it's recommended storage in the fridge.

Let me just say to you, don’t be put off by the garlickly odour. After a few minutes you don’t even notice it.  The mask is to be used on a freshly washed face, avoiding your eyes and left it on for 10 - 15 minutes before it's washed off. The mask does have a short use by date, as with most of the 'Fresh' range.

My skin was left feeling so clean and fresh. I didn’t even want to towel dry my face, I left it to dry naturally. I didn’t get that tight feeling I sometimes get with face masks and i did notice my spots were not so angry and sore.

This face mask  is seriously underrated; Mask of Magnaminty, Cup O’Coffee and Cupcake are always hyped and so should Cosmetic Warrior.

Don’t forget when you return any 5 black pot from Lush you will get a free fresh face mask!

Cosmetic Warrior is most definitely a yay and i’m on my second pot already
