Our financial life doesn’t always go the way we went it to, curveballs can hit us from every direction, and these can occur one after another so even when you think you have a solid plan in place things can get completely off track and this can happen gradually and sometimes you can’t pinpoint what went wrong.

With the impacts of the ongoing inflation, cost of living crisis and of course COVID-19 lockdowns. We are all trying to find ways to sort out our finances. Today I am sharing with you 5 ways you can reset your finances stress free.

Understand your life costs
All of us are guilty of setting budgets and never going back to readjust them. Since Covid-19 there has been an overall shift in how we are spending our money. With an increase in the price of our food shop, gas or electricity bills and, fuel our old budgest our outgoings will be more than likely than we thought.

To get started on your new budget, you’ll need to work out how much you spend on household bills, insurance, bank charges or interest, travel, car costs like fuel and MOT tests, as well as public transport and leisure, including holidays, gym fees, meals out or other entertainment.

To help with this use a budget planner or calculator such as SavingsCalculator.org which uses a variety of calculators to work out how much you are going to save each month, and how long it will take for you to reach your goal.

Identify your financial problems
The first place to start is by obtaining your credit report. Your credit report contains all the information which makes up your credit score. You can check your score online for free using sites such as Credit Karma and Clearscore. It is important that you take your time to look through it and make sure everything is correct.
Your credit report will show if you have missed payments and who you own money to.

Cut your household bills
There are a lot of suppliers out there and it’s easy to cut your monthly bills. Call your supplier and ask for a better price. Use a price comparison website such as, gocompare to find a cheaper deal. Cut your water bills by changing your shower head to an eco-friendly one or even by having fewer baths. Reduce your heating bills by reducing the flow temperature on your boiler, set a timer so it is not on all day and night and stop drafts from windows and doors.

Save with purpose

When you set a goal for your savings, the goal itself encourages you to continue managing your money prudently, whether it is by saving more money or earning more money. You’ll be surprised what a huge difference the right motivation can make towards your financial independence efforts.

Take back control on your spendings
Keep to your monthly budgets, remember why you have set them. Avoid buying new things, check out Charity shops, Vinted and Facebook groups, there are bargains to be found! Take advantage of freebies by joining websites such as seefilmfirst, and moneysavingexpert.com has a forum where people list freebies that they have found online, if you do buy new, use discount codes and cashback sites.
