Egypt is an unforgettable travel destination with some of the most historical monuments on Earth, tucked away in the north eastern corner of Africa, making one of the most visited places.

Today I am sharing with you 10 top tips you need to know before you visit Egypt.

Cash is king
The best exchange rate that you are going to find anywhere is the bank at the airport. Most hotels will also exchange your money for you, just be aware that it will be at a slighter lesser rate. The local currency is the Egyptian Pound but they also accept USD and GBP.

Visa on entry
You will need a Visa on entry, which is 25 USD and you can buy them at the airport from the bank counters. You can also buy it online via the visa2egypt portal.

Consider getting a reputable tour operator
A tour operator can book transfers, Nile cruises, tours, and excursions in Egypt which will probably save you money, If you booked it yourself. If you are travelling in a group a tour operator can help you plan excursions in Hurghada and other places.

Travelling with a tour operator is perfect for important tour sites so you can understand the history and they will take you to hidden gems you would had probably not known about. Other benefits of hiring a tour guide include exploring the local culture and traditions.

Get a Egyptian Sim or E sim
WIFI is not the best in Egypt is not the best and it rooming charges can mount up. You can buy a universal Sim card at the airport. You can also purchase a digital sim card which would be ready to use when you arrival.

Take Ubers over Taxis
Taxi drivers can charge you up yo three times the price of a trip of Uber. Uber is really easier to use in Egypt, you do not need to worry about knowing the language as your driver will already know where you are going to.

The best place to shop
If you want to go shopping, do not go by the Pyramids, everything at the tourist attractions is more expensive. There are markets in Aswan, Luxor and Cairo. The ones in Luxor will have the best prices, be prepared to negotiate, it is part of the culture and actually can be rather fun once you get over the initial shock of it all. Make sure to pack light so you have enough space to bring home all your goodies.

Don’t be afraid to say no
You should always be comfortable to say no, if that what you need to do! Do not let your kindness be mistaken for weakness. “La Shukran” means No thank you if you want to politely want to tell someone in the market that you do not want to buy their goods

Don’t drink tap water
If you drink tap water there is a high chance that you will get sick. Make sure you use bottled water to drink and brush your teeth.

Be prepared for the mosquitos
There are lots, and I mean lots of mosquitos in Egypt. The best mosquito repellent is called OFF! which you can only buy in Egypt. Avon Skin So Soft is also known to be a good repellent and is purse friendly if you are on a budget.

Do your research
Research for the time you are wanting to travel, for example if you wish to travel during Ramadan be prepared for local places to be closed. However hotels and tourist places in Egypt will be mainly unaffected by Ramadan
