5 Tips For Anyone Thinking Of Starting a Blog*

Before
I started writing my own blog, I was a fan of reading blogs and
watching vlogs. I always find it interesting know what people have to
say. Back then I tended to be interested in things like plus size
fashion especially bloggers who showed off different shop hauls and were
honest about size and fit. It was like reading a review of the item
from people just like me – great! Then when I was pregnant with Miss D, I
decided that I wanted to start my own blog. It started as a way to
document my pregnancy and then grew from there. I was nervous about
starting my own blog, so I wanted to share some tips with you, in case
you’re in a similar position.

March To The Beat of Your Own Drum
The
blogging community is friendly but it can also feel competitive. I am
sure we are all guilty of scrolling through social media newsfeeds and
feeling that we haven’t quite lived up to someone else, or aren’t doing
as well as everyone else.
Blogging
is no exception. However, remind yourself that everyone started out
blogging and when they start, no one knows what they’re doing! We all
have to start somewhere and doing anything creative like this is a
massive learning curve. Don’t compare yourself to others, just do what
makes you happy and learn as you go, in your own time.

Don’t Be in It For The Freebies
Lots
of people are under the impression that bloggers and influencers are
sent loads of freebies all the time. This means that people can be
motivated to start a blog in order to be able to get sent gifts too! Let
me tell you, if bloggers are meant to be sent lots of free things, my
address must have gotten lost in the post somewhere! Of course, you’ll
have seen on my blog and Instagram that I have been lucky enough to be
sent a few things & Miss D and I have been invited to some lovely
places. But, they certainly don’t happen overnight & then certainly
don’t happen all the time. Do blogging because you love it and that way
anything else is just a bonus.

Design Doesn’t Have to Be Hard
The biggest struggle for me was knowing
where to start with designing my blog. Initially I went onto Etsy and
there are different templates you can purchase and even have installed
to get you going. Now I know a little more about blogging I know there
are lots of websites such as Font Bundles that help make life easier.
These websites have mini sections within them such as a
graffiti font site
that allow you to download different fonts to help make design easier.
You don’t even have to use these for blogs; you can use them for
business cards, party invites and so much more. They’re free so you
don’t even have to worry about the financial implications.

Join In With The Blogging Community
No
matter what niche of blog you decide to write, there will be an online
community of bloggers with a similar passion. The best place I have
found for this is Facebook groups but following hashtags on Twitter
isn’t a bad place to look either. This allows you to find people with a
similar interest to you and meet new people. I have attended a few
blogging events too which can be a good way to make new friends. The
great thing about this is that they know about blogging too, so you can
ask them any questions when you get stuck with something, really handy.

Enjoy Yourself
However,
the biggest tip I can give you is enjoy it! I’m not saying that it will
always be easy or that it won’t have its struggles, but it does need to
be something you enjoy otherwise what is the point? I definitely have
times where I don’t feel like blogging and that is okay. I remind myself
that I don’t have to keep up with everyone else and it is okay to take a
break. Just come back to it when I feel ready rather than forcing
myself to put out content I didn’t enjoy writing, as I think that really
shows.

Have
a read of some blogs you like & put yourself in their shoes – could
you write in the same way and share elements of your life with people?
If so, go for it – what do you have to lose?
