How to add a vintage touch to your interior design*

There
is nothing classier than a little bit of vintage in your home. However,
how are you meant to add a vintage look without going over the top and
creating a room that’s outdated? Adding
tub chairs and other accessories is a great way to get you started.
Think about your style
The most important thing to keep in mind when you’re designing your interior design is to always remain true to your own style. If
you like something, use it. Don’t go out buying a load of vintage
accessories just because they were featured in a magazine. Shopping
vintage doesn’t have to have rules; buy the vintage stuff you like.

Less is more
Don’t go vintage mad! You’ll either
end up with a cluttered home that causes stress every time you try to
clean, or you’ll have a load of prints and designs that clash with each
other. The
key is to find one or two pieces, then keep everything else fairly simple. If you’re a collector and want to display your pieces, try a glass cabinet where they’re out of your way, yet still on display.
Save Money
If
you want to add a few vintage pieces to your home, but don’t have the
budget, save money by hunting down your latest charity shop. A c
ouple
of items you can add to your interior design that will give off a
vintage vibe are: a stack of old books and a quilt. Most charity shops
stock these items. You’ll have a vintage home in no time.

Bedroom
Vintage touches don’t have to be limited to one
or two rooms. Treat yourself to a vintage dressing table or some old
mirrors. Add these to your bedroom and you’ll end up with a really
unique space you’ll feel great in.

Bathroom
If you really want to splash some serious money, consider investing in a
vintage bathtub and sink to create a relaxing haven. If money it a
little tighter, there are still ways to create a vintage style on a
budget. Add a vintage metal towel rail or use rust paint to make modern
items look older
than they actually are. A very popular and extremely cheap way to add a vintage feel to your bathroom is to get some mason jars and fill them with bath salts and cotton pads.
Kitchen
Add
some pretty vintage plates for a vintage touch. You can have hours of
fun tracking some great ones down from markets and car boot sales. If
you want to spend more money, treat yourself to a lovely wooden worktop
and ceramic sink unit. Search for some old-fashioned
recipe books and you’ll have the vintage feel!
Rugs
You can add many practical and attractive accessories to your home that help give it a vintage feel. A nice old-fashioned rug is a great way to spruce up your current decor without doing it up a bit too much. If you look after your rug properly, it will last you years.
Chairs
Chairs
and sofas are a fantastic way to add a vintage feel to your home. As
lovely as old books and mirrors may look, they are not always the most
practical in your home. If you own a smaller space and want to add a
vintage style, it’s better to go for som
ething
that is of actual use to you, rather than something that just takes up
what little space you have. Chairs and sofas are a great way to add a
comfortable pop of style.

Think Floral
Who doesn’t love a few flowers in the home? They are a great way to add
a classy vintage look to your space. Whilst classy, they’re timeless.
Add a few floral cushions or blankets to create a relaxing environment.
Indulge in some beautiful fresh cut flowers from time to time to create a
peaceful and welcoming home.

Think about the era
Vintage
style doesn’t have to all be about one particular place in history. If
there is a specific time in history or a specific thing you like about
that time, research about it and go shopping. It doesn’t matter which
era you like; just do
what you want.
Some
critics may tell you to stick to one era. However, if you’re mixing a
little modern with vintage and you like different pieces from different
times, why shouldn’t you mix them up?

However you choose to add a vintage touch to your interior design, remember that there are no rules and if you like it, it’s YOUR space and YOUR style. You can do whatever you want!
