Why is Community Involvement Important for Children?*

Community means a lot to many people, and it can definitely offer help in times of need. It’s nice to know that you have people around you that care and want to help. It’s important to impart these values and attitudes on to our children as it can help them to be more social, make friends and develop important skills. Below are some benefits from an independent school in Fulham.

Social Skills
Community involvement can take many forms. You can volunteer to help the vulnerable, work on restoration projects and do your bit to keep the environment clean. In many cases, by getting out there, your child will have the opportunity to meet others and practice their social skills.

Maintain a Nice Neighbourhood
The small efforts that you make all feed into what your neighbourhood is and becomes. Being an active member of your community, you can help to create a nice and safe environment for your child to grow up in.

Compassion

It’s nice to do things for others and not expect anything in return. It can teach children about compassion and humility. In an age where we’re so materialistic, this can help children to think about the bigger things in life and what they have to be grateful for.

Learn New Skills
Also, getting involved in different activities and projects can help children to build new skills. This is advantageous as it’s difficult to gain work experience whilst young. It gives them work experience, hobbies, and achievements that they can list on their CV to demonstrate passion and competency.

Sense of Belonging
It’s so important that children know their roots and where they come from as it helps to build their sense of identity. Community work can teach children more about it and help them to develop a greater connection.
