Tips For Dining Out While Abroad*

As someone who enjoys dining out with friends, I also love to experience the way that works when you’re in different parts of the world. Whilst it can be tempting to stay in the hotel and eat at their restaurant or make the most of their all you can eat offerings; I like to try and see what is available locally as well – just to make sure that I get as much out of the holiday experience as possible. Here are some tips I have picked up along the way.

Ask the Locals
Whilst any area full of holidaymakers will have restaurants and eateries for the tourists, sometimes I want to experience something fully authentic. If you’re visiting places like local markets or tourist attractions, then speak to the locals that are there about their recommendations. You might find a smaller restaurant or one without all the whistles and bells, but you’ll also get a restaurant that the locals like – which means it must be good.

Research before you Go
The internet is a wealth of information these days, which means that research anywhere before you go is easy – and worthwhile. Once you have a trip booked and you know where you’ll be, you can start to research your local eateries options, read reviews, look at photos etc. to build up a picture of places you would like to visit while you are there.

Book in Advance
One thing I like to do when eating out here is book in advance and the same goes for when I am away. When booked in advance with websites like Square Meal UAE you get the peace of mind that you aren’t going to get there and be turned away because there is nowhere for you to sit. The added bonus is that you can put in any special requests such as if you have a particular table you like or an area you would like to avoid.

Be Brave
It can be scary to try and eat somewhere off of the beaten track, but it does mean that you’ll get a completely different experience than if you stick to the restaurants designed for tourists and visitors. Not only will you get different food, but you’ll often find it comes with a smaller price tag, so really, it’s a win-win.

Try Something Local
Depending on the part of the world you are visiting you might find that they have different types of food to what you’re used to – these are the best ones to try! After all, you won’t get a chance to try them again when you are home. Even if it is a little out of your comfort zone, try something new and you’ll often find that you have across a tasty new dish that will make up some of the best of your holiday memories.

If you have any tips for dining out while abroad, I would love to hear them
